So for my current project in my Industrial Design class, we had to design and build a display box for an object that we own. I decided WTF - I'm going to make a display box for a custom lightsaber that I built a few years back. I actually have several custom sabers, so I'm trying to build the box so that it will fit all of them, and I can rotate them every so often for display. I don't have any time to customize at the moment, but this is kinda filling in for my fix right now, lol.

It's still very much a work in progress, this is just the first few hours that I spent this evening measuring and cutting the wood pieces for the base.

The box is made of wood and the small holders are plexiglass, and there will be a plexiglass cover that goes over the top as well. For the constraints of the class, I'm not allowed to finish it at all, but after it's graded and returned to me I plan on painting the base in a gloss black and lining the back wall of the plexi with a mirror.

Did you use anal beads in that lightsabre? :D

Don't worry, I'm sure he washed them first.

LOL.

Anyway, if that stand turns out half as awesome as that lightsabre, it will still be amazing. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Do you plan on adding any kind of built-in illumination into the base?

Yeah! Built-in illumination sounds sweet!

Sorry, didn't see your question. The lightsaber was built from a repro kit that I picked up a while back... I didn't machine that. I wish I had that capability tho.

I managed to get this project finished for my class. I ended up re-designing the box just a bit, as I had to adhere to some size restrictions which I didn't take into account. Unfortunately, after down sizing the dimensions a bit, that lightsaber no longer fits inside the box... luckily for me I have others :D

Overall it's not perfect, but I think this will be my final attempt at it. This is the third one that I built, the other two didn't get the plexi covers made, just the bases. But I have them still, and while they aren't perfect either, I think they will be just fine once I coat them with some nice shiny black paint. So I'll have some nice displays for three of my custom lightsabers.

But where did you find the Force Crystals for your custom lightsabers?

Pretty cool, Dave. And even more so to combine it with your classes.

So, you have custom lightsabers? Never seen 'em man. Post 'em!

And what's the difference between a lightsaber and a lightsabre?
