It's starting to look like one of my first projects might get done here pretty soon (which is exciting) and I've been wondering how I'm going to seal my paint once I'm done (using enamels). Does anybody have any good advice on how to achieve a good gloss clear coat (for say, car parts) and a good flat clear coat (for robot parts)?

Generally, check out your local hobby stores for clear coats from your popular hobby brands like Testors. But for gloss, I recommend Future floor polish (google it for more info). You can also use it for a flat finish by adding some Tamiya flat base.

For a flat sealer I'd use Testors Dullcote. Stuff's pretty awesome.

follow up question:

i've used a cheap enamel paint on a gundam plastic before and it took weeks to set. like after 3 days, when i touched the painted part, my fingerprints marked on the surface. here's my question for enamel paint users, do you guys spray/airbrush topcoats immediately after painting? or do you let the paint set then paint?
