So evil German guy was created with a PoC Dusty head and RoC Destro and Marvel Universe Blade

I am looking for HONEST and MATURE C&C due to who it is this piece depicts. It is the first piece of a WW2 era Captain America diorama.

This piece does not reflect Pro Customizers views or mine. Artistic liberties in mind, I wanted to remain somewhat true to the subject.

I haven't really hit the "wow" moment with it yet, so I am really looking forward to comments.

**UPDATE 11-13-10** could a Mod please move to WIP's please?
Dio built its Roughly 75% complete?
SDCC Cap received a few light washes greys, blues and reds
SDCC Red Skull was just started
Evil German guy got a new paint scheme to better match RS. He also received a bullet to the forehead to match the death photo. Which I have decided is odd because (I would assume) if you suicide yourself, wouldn't you shoot yourself in the side of the head or the chin?

So you gave in on the swastika? Disappointing. Sorry, but that is my feeling.

How to put it without getting into the back story here... No longer a commission.

I also didn't want to start a poll about it. Though I do want some authenticity, I am really on the fence about it. Now that it is nearly complete I wanted a more public opinion.
It is by NO means set in stone. My wife just told me I should have used the double cross. I believe I will use that instead.

I respect your input Z.

Not sure what is meant by this comment, but the figure looks good albeit a little on the youthful side for who it is supposed to be. Might want to try and clean up the Swastika a bit and maybe give the face a bit of a aged look with maybe a little darkness around the eyes. If he is supposed to represent the SS then it should be authentic. Just because it's there doesn't endorse the customizer's views. It is just an authentic custom.

I am on the fence with the swastika, it is rough. The pictures were shot via droid, but there is some aging (darkness) under the eyes and some grey hair before the ears. Perhaps I should wash the whole head with some greys and whites?

If you are going to make a Nazi figure and the uniform calls for a Swastika, then use it. It doesn't mean you are going to burn for it or that people are going to think less of you. It is a custom, a piece of art, not something you are going to incorporate into your way of life. It doesn't even reflect on you. It is just a symbol, albeit one used by the most vile group ever to walk the earth. In my opinion, and that is all it is, I loath everything about the SS and Hitler, but if for some reason I decided to do a diorama for a WWII and I needed to show a German SS brigade then I'd use it just for authenticity's sake. I will add that if this is for a Captain America diorama, I might consider using a Hydra symbol instead of the Swastika if it is possibly going to be a problem.

Not a big fan of the "double jacket" look going on. The jacket over the Destro body just looks... odd. The head looks like one of the Slayer Designs custom casts, but I can't really see the paint job too well. From what I *can* see it looks like the hair and mustache needs to be touched up a little bit.

Other than that, it looks OK.

Well, you've got me thinking of another use for the hydra symbol (other than arm band). Thanks groovy.

I was going for the over coat look but ya def looks silly now that its mentioned. Thanks for the input SWG.

This debate has been coming up on the marvel forums in regards to the new Cap America movie, more and more pics are making the movie look like there will be no nazis, only Hydra and that is ridiculous. Its not idol worship to paint a swastika, its historically accurate, and theres nothing wrong with that. If this is part of a Cap dio Im assuming Hitler is probably going to be getting his ass kicked and that makes it even more acceptable. That way when you sell it it doesnt look like you've got a thing for SS themed Joe customs. Your other option is to draw the swastika going in the oppostite direction but most people wont notice it.
On the figure itself, the double jacket looks a little ackward but Im sure you could fix that, just needs to lay more flush with the body. And on a really anal side not his comb over usually goes the opposite direction, not that its even an issue, just saying. :)

.

Now I'm curious. If it's no longer a commission, why did you still make one?

As for the custom, looks fine to me.

I have been wanting to do a WW2 style dio for awhile, after the discussion I decided that I could pull this off but not for wrong reasons. Cap will indeed be serving it up to to the SS. I think it will be a very interesting and entertaining piece done for the right reasons.

For whatever reason noone makes a head with the correct part in the hair. I'm no sculpter but mabey one day...

Thanks guys

You should do a "Friendly" German Guy. A "what if" Hilter was accepted to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Make him happy and holding a paint brush.

There was a newer episode of The Outer Limits in which Katherine Heigl was sent back in time and became hitlers nanny. Her mission was to kill baby hitler, she fought with her conscience because its not "hitler" yet its just a baby. All teary eyed she dropped the baby from a bridge into cold water and returned to the future only to find out the atrocities still happened. hitlers mom thought the nanny seemed fishy and switched babys.

Don't know why I just thought of that. mabey because we are products of our upbringings?

Outer Limits was a great show. I remember the end of on episode where the bad guy gets stuck in a time loop reliving the last second of his life as a bomb explodes over and over again.

As for Hitler, maybe him getting accepted in the art school wouldn't have been a bad thing.

Anyway, back on topic. Now I have to go watch the History Channel.

Keep the swastika. It is a symbol in world history. I think we all understand what it represented and what it no longer does, but again, it is a piece of world history. I think this argument is getting on the 'old' side.

IMO, I agree with aging the face a bit and the rings under the eyes is a great point. Hilter was a looney and crazed so that look of dark rings under the eyes may get that across in some way. Also, I think maybe glossy up the coat, IDK.

Im sad to see you dumped the historical look and went for the Hydra symbol, There was quite a huge outcry from the fanboys over on the Cap sites pissed they havent even seen a hint at the Nazis in all the preview info. Joe Johnston recently updated it though and confirmed the presence of the german ss in the movies, much to everyones relief. Cant sugar coat evil man, it is what it is.

I am still wishy washy on it! I simply can't settle on historic or revisionist.

I don't dig the trench coat. Dunno, I think its the ribbed lapels. I WOULD use the Swastika. I mean if Hasbro can do it for their Indie Figures, I don't see a big deal with it. Its history. It happened. If we hide it, ignore it, or forget about it, it will happen again.

As far as the custom its a great start. Needs some cleaner paint and some of the other points the other guys mentioned.
