Does anybody know or care to divulge (in the case of Mr. Frenzy Rumble himself) what figures and techniques were used to improve the articulation on the G1 dinobots that Frenzy Rumble collaborated on with JAF? I've got the set and would like to give it a shot myself, but I have no idea what parts were used to make them so badass.

I would shoot a PM to F_R himself..... not something that should be posted IMHO.

Why shouldn't it be posted? Aren't we here to help? And didn't we just have a thread about silly 'trade secrets'? :p

JAF did the majority of the articulation. I did contact him and he's unsure what he used. I know for Grimlock, he used E Sharkticon or something like that. Here's a gallery of the WIP shots, they might help being they are in a pre-paint stage:

Because it is F_R's and JAF's work. If they choose to post it, then that is fine otherwise it should not be posted by another. It may be "silly" but some people take it very seriously.

Who else could post how they did it, though? I suppose if it was auctioned off... wasn't it?... and the winner RIPS THEM OPEN AND REVEALS THEIR 1337 HAXX TO THE WORLD, then yeah... that'd be a bad thing. Haha.

Or maybe some other people were told how it was done and asked not to share that information..... :nunchucks:

Hmmm. I didn't realize it could potentially be a big secret. Luckily it doesn't seem that Frenzy Rumble cares, but it seems that Encline Designs has done a version of the grimlock http://www.procustomizers.com/showthread.php?t=26 (and I'm sure there are others) so it can't be too big of a secret.

Thanks for the WIP shots Frenzy Rumble, they have helped. I can see that the crotch and legs for Slag are a universe sunstreaker/sideswipe already, and I'm sure I'll be able to figure out more. If any body else discovers any clues please let me know.

I think these mods are too cool to be left unshared, and much like everybody does a rip-off version of Ptitvite's devastator, they should be understood and available for everybody (whether they can pull it off or not) to attempt. Besides, even if other people know how to make a particular custom it doesn't mean the original developer of that idea will be going out of the custom business. F_R's paint apps alone are unique and unimitable in a way that would make it impossible for me or anyone else to steal his business by attempting a similar custom, no matter how well it turned out...

Sure as hell is isn't it! Damn, my bad. Those sharkticon legs and crotch are perfect though, they look very similar to the MP ones I think. I thought that version looked a little too badass...

I can't figure out how JAF did those ball jointed shoulders with the crazy long pegs, is anybody familiar with a part like that?

I think they may be stolen from a Revoltech figure- or perhaps they were built from ball joint kits of various sizes that can be purchased from a hobby store, like the Yellow Submarine hobby stores here locally. They have their own brand of supplies, actually.

That's probably a good call. Do you know where I can find some ball joints like that online?

I don't know of anywhere online but if you have a TRU,Wal-Mart,K-Mart,or Target nearby, then seek out the Power Rangers Super Legends Retrofire zord figures, they're made with Revolotech joints.

I've been eyeing them for the past couple of months, though I need to buy a MMPR Megazord one and they need to release a MMPR Dragonzord and MMPR White Tigerzord ones as well, but that's for a different discussion all together lol.

If you Google Yellow Submarine Hobby Store or something to that effect, I'm sure it will pop up.

EDIT: Found 'em.

EDIT: Or you can also use Hobby Link Japan (www.hlj.com). Here's a link to a large Yellow Submarine ball joint set:

Cool, thanks guys. Now I need to find a cheapo set of dinobots to experiment on so I don't wreck my nice ones!

Is there an english section of the yellow submarine site btw?

So speaking of the dinobots, does anyone know/have an opinion on what the quality is like with the "reissue" dinobots found on ioffer (http://www.ioffer.com/search/items/dinobots/text_pics/ioffer/0/false)?
