It's a casting product called HydroShrink (or something like that), basically it's a resin that is made up of a large percentage of water. After you make a cast, the water slowly evaporates and as it evaporates, the cast gets smaller. When it reaches the size you want, you need to make a new mold and then pull your regular casts from there.

Thanks StarWarsGeek! It seems like a really useful technique, are heads the easiest to shrink?

Honestly, I've never tried it. I've read about the stuff, and have heard (and seen) good results and bad results. You have to watch the piece almost constantly, and then when it hits the right size you have to be quick to re-mold it. There is always a chance that it may shrink some even while the new mold rubber is setting up, so the results are not always perfect. I'm sure that the technique is the same regardless of what you're molding, so I don't think heads would be easier - or harder - than anything else.

I've used it only on two projects and that was for some prop replicas that I sold,it's a great product as is it's counterpart HydroSpan.

Hydrospan and shrink is pretty overpriced and kinda overrated. You can get the same results with $10 worth of paint thinner.

You could try asking your local witch doctor.
