Does anyone here know how to do this?

I've seen RC guys use the non skid mat, the kind you put in the bottom of a toolbox or under the kitchen sink, and use that like a stencil. I've also hear of low tack dry wall tape.

I googled it last night, and saw what you were talking about. I'm wanting to do thist to the hood area of Cannon Bumblebee. Do you think the drywall tape would work?

Thanks guys. I've got some drywall tape and will be giving it a try soon. My biggest hurdle is I have no airbrush, so it's gettting done with a regular brush. Will let you know how it turns out. Just wish Moar from TFW would get back to me on how he did the hood on his custom ROTF Skids.

F_R's suggestion is cool.. i would reccomend it.

for another crazier idea (and notably tedious too), check out "custom stealth sideswipe" by Wats. posted on the custom gallery.

individually hand painting each dot.

WOW! That IS tedious! I would try Hank's recommendation of pantyhose, but I'm doing Cannon Bumblebee's hood, so the contours would keep it from working. I'm gonna try the drywall tape, but may end up doing it by hand.

you can grab one of those Testors airbrushes at walmart for $20 or so, then u can use enamels for a better finish. Might be a nice (cheap) investment to add to your tools

I have an airbrush on my Christmas list. Will see what happens.

The tape and non skid mat may be too large for a deluxe. I have seen, but not tried some model cats do it with panty hose nylon, if I recall it was like a real tight fishnet pattern.

Fishnet stockings are sweet.
ahem.
Fishnet would be way too large for a deluxe. if he were stretching it over the tank on his motorcycle he could do snake skin.

Drywall tape you could overlap a few times to narrow the gaps. drawer liner works too

Just as an update to this since it's been bumped; Hobbytown USA carries a vinyl sheet that looks like carbon fiber. This stuff is pretty awesome looking but a little thick. I assume other hobby shops that carry RC car supplies would have this or something like it. Keep an eye open.

I could print you out a small carbon fiber decal for the hood if you wanted.

I still need to get with you on the flames for this project. For reference I want to do the carbon fiber effect on the hood of Cannon Bumblebee. I got the tape, but it was definitely too big, as is the drawer liner. I picked up a nylon net-type paint strainer, but since the hood has some curves to it, I have to figure out how to hold it down.
