I had something similar to this running on another site, and I thought it would be great to implement it here. It doesn't matter if it's brand new or 50 years old. Recently see a movie that you've never seen before, or one you haven't seen in a while? Post about it here!
I'll continuously edit this initial post with all of the movies being discussed, and show how many positive and negative ratings it gets. That way it'll serve as either a great recommendation to fellow members, or a notice to stay away at all costs!!
So, without further adieu, here we go!
List of Movies:
2012 (in theaters) - 2 positive, 0 negative
9 (in theaters)- 1 positive, 0 negative
Astro Boy (in theaters) - 2 positive, 0 negative

The Box (in theaters) - 1 positive, 0 negative

Law Abiding Citizen (in theaters) - 1 positive, 0 negative
Observe and Report (rental) - 1 positive, 1 negative
Paranormal Activity (in theaters) - 4 positive, 1 negative (Consensus: Creepy and original, one of the best "true" horror movies in a while, check it out)
Punisher: War Zone (rental) - 2 positive, 0 negative (Consensus: Bad acting surrounds him, but the most bad-ass Punisher ever warrants a viewing)
Push (rental)- 2 positive, 0 negative (Consensus: It's no "Gone With The Wind", but you'll be entertained)
Revolutionary Road (rental)- 1 positive, 0 negative
The Time Traveler's Wife (in theaters) - 1 positive, 0 negative (a chick flick endorsed by Sabrina...who would have guessed. :D )
Watchmen (rental) - 2 positive, 0 negative (Consensus: Not as good as the comic [what could be?], but pretty damn close. See it)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (rental) - 2 positive, 1 negative (Consensus: Don't expect a great story, but the action scenes make up for it [just barely])
Zombieland (in theaters)- 3 positive, 0 negative (Consensus: Don't download, buy the ticket and see it now)
Television:
ROME (rental/purchase) - 2 positive, 0 negative (Consensus: Definitely must-see TV, catch the entire series in Blu-ray in December)
Keep those reviews coming!

Definitely District 9. I am very interested in seeing that animated movie 9 this Friday. Will report back here then.
I love spending the weekend watching the Sci Fi channel..er SyFy channel as they call themselves now. I loooove the schlocky B-rated originals they come up with.
They tend to have budgets and actors that don't quite live up to their plots and visions! LOL! That makes them all the more entertaining in my book!

Thinking about Pandorum too. Looks creepy, but I hope they didn't put the only interesting stuff in the commercial.
Saw 9 of Friday, definitely a unique movie, I enjoyed it. Seems like there was lots of good movies this summer/early fall.

Extract has probably been the best movie I've seen lately. Final Destination was disappointing, even with the 3D. I keep meaning to see 9, but can't find the time.

Just saw "Zombieland" yesterday. It was great. Now tied with "Drag Me To Hell" as my favorite movie of 2009. Highly recommended.

I will third ZombieLand. Too many funny parts in that movie. I was literally laughing and flinching from being startled at the same time.
The movies I want to see are Where the Wild Things Are, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and The Toy Story 3-d 1&2 revival.

My wife saw some Blockbuster movies on sale so she bought five of them over the weekend. Here's what we saw:
Duplicity (Clive Owen & Julia Roberts) - I didn't see it, but she loved it and said I would to, so I'll give an assisted recommendation. :D
Push (guy who played human torch from the FF movies and Dakota Fanning): Another X-men/Heroes "people with powers/government's after them" type of movie, not the worst but better than what I thought it would be, so slight edge to "recommendation".
(intermission: I swear I just heard somebody on the TV in the background talking about "sticky butt syndrome", WTF????)
Revolutionary Road (Leo & Kate from Titanic): Very good movie, but depressing as hell. Recommended, but make sure there aren't any sharp objects nearby.

Saw X-Men Origins : Wolverine over the weekend. Some of the action scenes were the best I've ever seen, especially towards the beginning, however there's a lot of "cheese" factor in the movie, the kind that make you feel like a total nerd when watching it with other people after you recommend watching it (like Wolverine going a little overboard trying to be a bad-ass)
You'd think with the cast line up that the acting would be good. Liev Schreiber (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000630/) is an awesome actor, but didn't deliver (to me) a great villian, I think he just looks too likable to have the animal/killer behaviors of Sabertooth.
Another huge let down was the terrible acting of Will I am (black eye peas) as John Wraith or Greg Burger (blog) - really lame makeup on the blob too...
Chris Edgerly (Gambit) was a refreshing surprise though, he had awesome moves and was one of the more impressive actors in the cast.
The story was great, very comic-book like, a little over the top with homages to the comic line and preceeding and following stories/ideas.

Speaking of comic book movies, did anybody else like Punisher: War Zone? The guy who played Jigsaw was horrible, and there was some atrocious dialogue, but damnit, this Punisher was MEAN. The last movie missed out on that, and that's the thing about the sequel that made me love it, despite it's flaws.

I agree, it's worth watching for the action scenes alone, but other than that...X-Men 3 had better dialogue & acting, and that's sad.

YES! The guy who played Punisher was also Titus Pullo in the HBO series "ROME" and if you haven't seen it, go see it now! I enjoyed the two seasons of ROME just as much (if not a little better) than the entire run of Sopranos.
I second your slight-recommendation because a truly bad-ass Punisher will overcome all flaws. :packin:

My friend saw a midnight showing of "Paranormal Activity" 2 days ago, and says he has not slept since. Very high on my must see list. There is also one with Milla Jovovich caled "The Fourth Kind" that looks uber-creepy as well...
In the bad column: Observe and Report. I picked this up as my monthly free view from Redbox. I still feel like I paid too much! Very lame and dissapointing movie. As if the entirety of the movie didn't suck enough, there is a five minute scene at the end where you are subjected to a fat man and his penis running in slo-mo. If you come across any copies of this movie: destroy them!

To counter Sculpt Bot, I LOVED Observe and Report. It was rude, offense, and awkwardly hilarious. It's by the team who does Eastbound and Down on HBO, so if you're familiar with that show, you know what to expect.

Went to see "Paranormal Activity" today since it finally opened in a theater closer to my house in NJ (last week the closest theater was in Chicago, lol!)
While it's not my all time favorite horror film, I liked it. It didn't really scare me, not much does anymore (at least movie-wise). But the people around me in the theater apparently were pretty scared by some of the things that were taking place, lol.
I thought it was pretty good. And apparently plenty of other people have too... it's made $33M so far. Not bad for a film that cost $15K to make. Yes, you read that right... $15K. Not $15 million, $15,000. Less than the average yearly salary. And it's taken in $33 MILLION thus far. Not a bad ROI methinks.

I second that recommendation for the HBO series 'Rome'. I bought the first season for my wife for Valentine's (she's odd like that), and we burned through it in a week and could not get the second season in from Netflix fast enough. Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus are like the ancient versions of Abbot and Costello. XD
When I saw Push, I was expecting something akin to Jumper, but it is much better and I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this movie more than Wolverine, honestly. It is definitely worth a look.

We saw "Paranormal Activity" last night, and to be honest I was a bit underwhelmed. It reminded me of "The Entity" except shot through home movie footage. I'll go ahead and recommend it, but don't go in thinking it's the greatest horror movie ever or anything.
However, we saw the original version (the screener copy that can be downloaded through the usual sources) and it had a different ending than the one in theaters. The theater ending, I can see how that would "spook" people more, but I kinda liked the original ending better.

My wife and I watched "Law Abiding Citizen" last night. Pretty good flick that also touches on all of the loopholes within the judicial system.
ASTRO BOY! Was awesome, but I am biased cause I love the old cartoon and saw all the hidden nods to it.
Edit* Oh I also wasted my money on Paranormal Activity 2 days ago. It was just plain boring to me and not very scary, I was actually laughing at all the people scared in the theater most the time. Ending was pretty trippy though, but yeah, not very scary or anything.

Saw wolverine yesterday. Very lame, and the "action" scenes sucked. The only half decent one was the chopper-bike chase. Poor Hugh Jackman, he was the only redeeming part of this movie.
why does so many people hate wolverine origins i mean it sucks about deadpool being gay but other than that i liked the movie allot.
on other things the best movies i have watched recently are pixars UP and Zombie Land i loved both of those movies. i watched zombie land at least 5 times now. An older one that is pure awesome is Superbad.

Last movie I saw was Ninja Assassin, if you are a man, or just like cool things, you should go see this.
The action scenes are incredible and the fight choreography is awesome. There is ALOT of blood and violence, ALOT.
But if you're a fan of Japanese anime like Bleach or Naruto, you should find this exciting.

I hated the part where Sabretooth grabs Will.i.am's (who the hell was he, anyway?) spinal cord. And there's no blood. At all. Anywhere. I'm pretty sure his arm would be in the way of a few organs. I think that's about the point where I lost interest in the movie.
It also seems as though everyone in that movie can scale buildings in mere seconds and leap from roof top to roof top, but poor Wolvie, with his claws and all, is reduced to using telescoping ladder wells...
Oh. And Katana-arms. I rest my case.
In other news, I just watched Terminator Salvation (why is there no ':' in the title? Is this movie about the salvation of Terminators?) earlier with my wife.
It was alright. TS was better than ROFL or G.I. Joe - although both of those are for kids. My biggest gripe is that, for finally seeing how Conner defeats Skynet (or at least the machines in the US? ........i.e. /lame/ attempt to leave things open-ended) there were actually very few machines in the movie. I was expecting to see something along the lines of the Matrix, with fields of human battery farms or at the /very least/ more than just one Hunter-Killer on-screen at a time. I had a bit of a 'Wait, was that it?' feeling when the credits rolled.
This movie, however, gets MAJOR PROPS from Alty for having a submarine in it.
When my Dad would go out on deployments and my Mom would worry about him, he'd always tell her that she should worry more about her and my safety, because if all hell breaks loose, despite being hundreds of feet beneath the ocean, an undetectable nuclear submarine instantly becomes the safest place on Earth. And he's right. So that was real nice to see...
...even though we can't broadcast or receive transmissions unless we're at periscope depth. So that whole H-K shooting a completely submerged boat about two hundred feet below the surface would never have happened in reality... but I digress. It was nice to see my office in another film. It was handled much more accurately than in ROFL. :)

I had a kung-fu/martial arts week. We watched Ong Bak 2 (awesome), then we saw Ninja Assassin (awesome like Ong Bak 2 PLUS gore), and then we saw Ip Man (HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!).
I got the unrated Terminator Salvation. Love the movie. Not sure why people didn't like it. Could have used more gore but then again, they are fighting robots.
Also not sure why people hated Wolverine. Loved that movie too. I don't read the comics and don't care about them, I just thought the movie was cool. I do like the cartoon too. Still, top movie for me was Transformers.
...oh yeah! And District 9.

Yeah, still need to see this... been hearing all this stuff about it, and I've been dying to check it out.
and then we saw Ip Man (HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!).
Yeah, this was a great flick too. Too bad 98% of the population isn't even aware that it exists.

Yeah, I like Onk Bak 1 a little better. I notice 2 had more weapon play while the first one was more hand to hand. Which is why I say Ninja is like Ong Bak 2. LOTS of weapon play...plus gore.
Ip Man just totally blew me away. "I'll fight TEN men!"

Yeah, I saw AVATAR, but the only thing that was impressive was the visuals (including the 3D).

I saw a couple people asking about Couple's Retreat, it was a steamy pile of shit. I made the unfortunate mistake of purchasing the DVD, if you want to see it I'll be happy to send it to you, just to get it the hell off my shelf. Avatar was awesome, though pretty much an effects-heavy version of Dances With Wolves, or The Last Samurai. Way to be original James, and after this I'll never watch another 3D movie again, had a 3 hour headache afterwards, and felt like I was cross-eyed for the rest of the night.
