though i've never appreciated hip-hop i can see that some people truly write it because they're expressing themselves and try to send a message, while many rappers and hip-hop artists nowadays (URHURM SOULJA BOY) simply write the lyrics for the sake of being catchy and making money

and besides, you can't beat the classics; dvorak, mozart, holst

The genre lost it's message when it went mainstream. Now, instead of being underground, edgy, and sticking it to The Man, it's been packaged and commercialized by the suits and ties. Who cares if the song has any meaning or makes any sense when it's catchy and has sex in the video?

music! another topic im into..... never was a fan of hip hop, never will.

its the same message over and over again: love/sex, fame/fortune.

Was in a rock band before, and i reaaly cant appreciate the writing/composing process of hip hop. all you need is a beat and recycle some message/lyrics.

as for me, nothing beats a good riff to fill in a good rock song.

im sorry but i just dont see bach as great as everyone says he is

I actually made an error there, I was thinking of Canon in D minor (Pachelbel) and wrongfully cited bach. OOpS!

Wow man, you need to listen to some real hip hop. If thats the only message you get you never listed to anything that was good. As far as writing and composing is not all sampled beats and looped strings.

dont get me wrong, i did try listening to hiphop. but the stuff we get here (philippines) are only the popular ones.

so enlighten me with some real hip hop. who knows i might even like it and i don't see anything wrong with adding hip hop to my "likes" list.

but one thing is for certain though. most of the hip hop songs i hear are, for me, too "commercial" nowadays.

You beat me to the list I was going to post. I just want to add Onxy, Fu-schnickens(More light hearte early hip hop but I liked them), KRS-ONE, Rakim,Erick Sermon, and some good ol Chubb Rock. These were the guys before the bullshit money makers , and gun toting, jewelery and car renting for their videos, fools of today.

it varies. but right now im a fan of incubus (prefer the older stuff though, eg SCIENCE (album title))

jack johnson for something lighter

Mae for some christian contemporary emo

my vitriol, but i dont think they're around anymore

mudvayne, boils my blood, in a good way

deftones

a lot..... but not so much from the newer bands. i think its safe to say that most musicians nowadays (rock hiphop RnB, etc) are out to make MONEY and not MUSIC. which is kinda sad

lastly, i kinda like the new single from JayZ. do i have hope??? haha

Although, the short album he did with Linkin Park was amazing.

If by listening you mean, having your 6 year old pound it, and having to watch the countless movies, instead of the Hockey game, than yes I listen (forcefully) to Disney's wonder child. Watch she'll end up on crack or something
