I had begun working on this figure alongside the Prime figure that he came with,I wanted to give him battle damage and weather him alot, then for whatever reason, the Cosmic Rust episode jumped in my head,I busted out my Tin Blitz ink and gave the final custom a wash in it,and the result was great.
So here ya go,enjoy:

You should get rid of the green and Add some wear using silver as well, , You did a good job But I think It looks a wee bit sloppy, Nice idea tho!

I have no clue how the green knees slipped past me,Wheeljack over on Secto70 pointed them out to me yesterday,I'm in the middle of fixing them,I'm also adding a neat lil feature as well.
As far as adding silver wear, that's a no go as his main color is silver,I do have Boltgun that I plan on using to add more wear to him with.I don't see the sloppiness, not sure if you are referring to the wear and grim that I added.

lol that sometimes happens to me as well! you work on it for hours move back and look at it, and then you go WTF! lolz
Oh I meant some drybrush silver over the rust to tone it down a bit. and umm I was NOT being rude when I said it was sloppy, I didnt say it looks sloppy but some parts could be corrected, and maybe you should give it a good blacklining
Like the front of the tank is rusted and then the rust just ends in a line just before the turret and the green in the insides. you should try and get rid of that aas well, maybe I'm nitpciking but those are pretty obvious and detract from this otherwise creative custom,

that rust looks great man. i like the battle damage as well
I hope this place doesn't start to become like Radicons.
The idea is great, I like the concept, and the technique is interesting.
The execution seems poorly done. The toy is not painted or detailed at all, just a bunch of multi-colored paint randomly slathered on it. Rust should be a dull, flat, textured look. If you expect to be able to sell something like this (I assume so because this site is specifically for those who sell their customs), you may want to heavily research model painting techniques.
Not knocking you, just posting my honest observations.
I hope this post does not have to be defended and backpedaled on like I would have to on other sites.

Since some people could think that this critic could be a little heartless but I have to say that some of the observations are simply the truth.
People post their works here and expect members to give their sincere opinions and constructive critics so they can improve their technics.
I think that even when the critic is truth it could have be given in a more friendly way, though.
I have to say, when I was reading everybody posts I started to feel a little frustrated because everybody just posted: OK!!, Great Job!!, Looks Cool!!
Love the Rust!!. And I was thinking...Why nobody point out the bad aspects of the customs?. Because we are here to get better, to learn from the others.
I think that not pointing the fails of a work is to understimate the person who is doing that work. Itīs like: "OH poor baby!, Itīs OK baby you are doing a great job, kiss, kiss", hahaha.
We donīt want that, I donīt want that!, we want to know for real how our work is going. So we can improve ourselves.
And of course, everyone who post his work here have to be mature enough for taking the critics in a good way.
If you want to be taken serious you have to be serious.

I love how I make a decision to take down my customs, because I feel they are not on par with what is on this site, and I get comments saying that I am being immature or not being serious.
My work is not on par with the other members,I feel that until I can do better, that I shouldn't post any here,I have other custom sites that I can post on till then,I'm a newb when it comes to customizing,so if it looks poorly done, guess what,it probably is.
Megatron is only my 3rd custom,yep 3rd.
You guys can take this as what you want, but I just don't think I'm good enough yet to post my customs here,it brings down the look of the site when you have professionals posting and then a beginner.

I wouldnīt like that you take it as an offense.
You got some feedback about your work,
you shouldnīt take your pictures down just because of that.
As I said before, I felt the critic a little unfriendly. But anyway
the observations were well pointed.
Donīt go down for a hard critic, keep your pictures here, so everyone could see your progress as you continue posting new works.
Nobody was born as professional.

You know, when you had the pics up, I quickly took a glance at your work and decided to comment later on. But now that they're gone, I can't do that anymore.
I think you should repost your images. Don't let the name of this site think you are "unworthy" or anything like that. Like you said, it's your third custom and we all started somewhere. In fact, I think PC.com is probably one of THE places for beginners to showcase. Look at the tutorials section, clearly a sign of the big guys helping out the little ones. Heck, they're even helping out each other :)
It's sometimes hard to post friendly constructive critique, because it's just words on a screen, you know. But like stated above, a lot of us are here to not only showcase our work, but also learn from each other.
I try to comment with more than just a "Damn, that's fantastic!", mostly looking at details, paint work, assembly etc. But I also try to help out when I see something that could be improved.
Those other sites you mentioned, what level would you say the customizers are at over there? Not dissing those sites, or anything, but sometimes you have to raise the bar a little higher for yourself, to get higher, if you know what I mean.
I hope you'll repost your pics, so they can be commented on, instead of your decision to take them down, which seems to be the case now.
:)

Well, I don't think that's really the point of this website. I mean, if we wanted to only have the "pros" be able to post their custom work, then that's what we would do. The fact that we didn't deny you a membership, or we didn't tell you that you CAN'T post pictures here, should be more than enough indication that we welcome ALL skill levels of customizers to post here.
Sure, you may not think that your work is the best out there. But, at the same time, if that's the case, then you should post your work and ask for critiques and ask people what you can do to make it better.
Of course, you don't actually have to listen to any of the critiques and comments that you get. If you posted a figure and someone came on here and said 'You should paint Megatron's head purple' - that doesn't mean that you HAVE to do it, right?
What you need to do is what's best for you. As others have said, none of the "pros" on this website knocked it out of the park the first time they made a custom figure. Well, OK, maybe some did. But most of us didn't. I know I didn't. I don't have any pics of any of my early work, but it wasn't very good. But as you keep at it and keep doing it, you'll get better. If you want to, that is. Not everyone wants to be a super-awesome-customizer-guy that sells figures for $300 each. Some people just like to paint figures for relaxation.
That's cool too.
The point I'm trying to make is that you can't take everything that people tell you to heart. Do what you feel is the right thing to do. If you're uncomfortable showing your work, then don't show it. But if you don't show it, we can't give you any help with trying to improve it.

I think this is the perfect site to post pics. I actually feel more comfortable posting them here than other places now. It's your decision to take them down if you want but I think you should post them. Especially if it's your third custom. You will get some helpful critiques.
Yes please don't feel that you should remove the pictures. I looked back and read how shortly I posted my criticizm, and I apologize for my tone.
I do understand the feeling of wanting to take the pics down though, I feel the same way about my own work, which I take pretty seriously, and I don't want to post crap here until I can get it right.
There is a lot of info on the net for customizing techniques, just do a search. I learned a lot on other sites, and have been practicing for a year now. But do not have any pics to post because I know that after I've done something, and it didn't turn out how I envisioned, I go on a research spree and try to figure out what it was that I needed to do to improve.
Everytime I see a custom in my head, it looks like Encline's, Jin Saotome's and Frenzy_Rumble's. What I end up with is disappointing. So until I feel comfortable that I have produced something top-notch, I won't post any pics of the mistakes or practice runs until I get it right. This is only because I am looking to turn this hobby into hopefully a business, and I'd like anything I post to reflect that ideal.
So until I have something of my own to post, I'll limit any crits I have to this: do lots of research and study. Then, practice, practice, practice. People patting us on the back for mediocre work won't really help us.

I was just on Sector 70 and found your pics. I remember seeing him. What's interesting was that this figure was my FIRST custom I did. That mold was so ugly, I felt that anything I did was an improvement. I even took pics and emailed them to Jin Saotome. It even inspired him to actually get that mold and he did a custom because of it.
I did other custome since then and then a year after I repainted him, I decided to get another mold and try again to see if I got better. I did :)
I then went and did some touch ups to my original version and and made THAT one better. It also wasn't until after I did that, that I realized that I could take the figure apart and make an even cleaner repaint.
I think you should repost the pics. I'll even try and find my first pics and post those.

THIS is one of my biggest pet peeves about customizing. I really can't stand sifting through various forums and finding images that people post of figures that look like they were just taken out and rolled in the mud, and they post a picture of it and get two dozen people to tell them how awesome it is. I don't understand why people can't be honest with each other.

Shame you took down the pictures. I personally feel this is one of the few sites out there ready to really critique your work and add some constructive feedback, rather than a few pages of "that's so cool" - or people NOT commenting because they don't want to sound like a prick or be taken the wrong way.

Hey dude. Just wanted to chime in here.
First, I'm glad you put this pics back up. F_R is right, this is a site where when you post your work, you will get honest critique. I know over at TFW2005 in the Radicons section, that is not the case. I've seen numerous people there get nothing but praise for something I can't even identify because the pic is so damn blurry. I'm a rookie myself. The Recon Ironhide I'm working on now is only my fifth attempt at a repaint. Here's what my first custom (http://procustomizers.com/showpost.php?p=6413&postcount=2) looked like. He's covered in brush strokes, I used an huge amount of white paint under the red to cover that stupid N.E.S.T. decal on the door, and the paint is chipped everywhere parts touch. But, I'm learning and this site has been a huge part of that.
Which brings me to point number two. When Frenzy_Rumble, Big Hank, Encline, and the other guys started this site, it wasn't just for them. Sure it may have started off as a place for just the pros to hang out, but it turned into something more. This is a place where anyone who wants to become a pro, can learn how. Everyone here is accessible, well, F_R is usually pretty busy, but you know what I mean. Hahaha. Everyone here is willing to shoot you straight and offer the best advice they can.
My suggestion to you is simple. Learn to be a sponge. Soak up as much knowledge as you can from those willing to share it. Other than that, just make sure you have fun and don't get discouraged.

That's the spirit! Glad you put those pics back up. Other members already pointed out where you could improve. I hope you'll revisit Megatron one day, then :)
When thinking of a rusty, eroded Megatron, TTT's work comes to my mind. Check out his work for inspiration.
And what I often do in cases like this is search the web for pictures. In this case to see what real rust looks like. Perhaps this (http://www.freefoto.com/browse/33-22-0?ffid=33-22-0) is useful for ya.
Or check out modeler's magazines, like FineScale Modeler. I always flip through the pages of a new issue at the local bookstore. If I see one or more articles I like, I'll buy it.
And yeah, I think different shades/dabs/spots of metallic colours (Games Workshop's Mythril Silver, Chainmail and Boltgun Metal come to mind). will work great. And some rusty brown in various shades of course ;)
