Look further into this thread to see the updated pics with much improved paint work and alt mode.

I don't know if I can make myself sell this one.
I don't have the city commander and this one looks great with my other classics and Universe figures.

Took a lot of cutting, gluing, sculpting, and painting to do this.
I used Universe Onslaught as the base figure then used parts from 6 other transformers.
I went for a worn and aged warrior look with the paint job.

Love the concept. Maybe it's just me, but the paint looks kinda, thick and gunky. Did you have any problems with it? I know white is a bitch.

No actually the white looked very nice until I dirtied it up with watered down black acrylic. I didn't want him to look too clean and wanted to bring out the detail. Should I make the white clean again and maybe just use a panel liner pen for the details like I did on his face?
I first painted the red areas with a very thin layer of bright red, then after it dried I painted a thin layer of metallic red over it. I hoped for a worn red metal look but It came out being the one thing i don't like about it.
I can always strip the red too and redo it in plain red.

Also I didn't use any sprays or masking tape. All hand painted.

I think just bringing out the panel lines on the white would be enough.

Also every single bit of my Soundwave's metallic flakes looked caked on (except the gold for whatever reason). It just wasn't as noticable because most of it was on very small areas. It could just be how it goes with brushing on metallic flakes. Might I suggest scuffing up a bit to let some of the original red through? It'll be far less work than stripping all the paints. And if you still don't like it, you can still strip the paints.

What does the alt mode look like. Maybe just certain parts should be clean. Like the white waist and the white legs. The shoulder, upper arm, and hands look nice dirtied.

I've already stripped the red off and started painting them solid bright red. Since this is all hand painted with enamels it simply won't look as clean as a sprayed job but maybe it will look better. I will paint over most of the dirty white too for a cleaner look but as Solrac said, I'll leave some of the dirty in the shoulders and maybe hands.

Undoing and redoing so much here has put me in a shitty mood today. I'm starting to feel like this was a big fail really.

I know how you feel dude. I've recently had to strip the paint of 3 entire figures, and I've still gotat least one more I messed up. And to top it all off, I've got to redo my Megs' elbow.

Just hang in there. It may take awhile, but the custom'll be better off for the extra effort.

Don't feel that way. Conceptually it's absolutely brilliant!

I think the execution suffered, it's certainly not up to your usual level. My vote goes to strip off the offending paint and start over.

If hand painting is your only option, use some thinner coats and I think you'll be fine.

I would really like to see this done up to its potential, it's such a great idea for UM!:)

The red is the only thing that looks less than amazing on this figure. The idea and work are both great, but the red would look better in thinner coats, or sprayed. Otherwise excellent work.

Forgot to ask, is that a modded Cybertron Metroplex for the head? Awesome!:)

Thanks to you guys being honest with me I went back and spent hours stripping paint and redoing much of it, then did lots of other touch ups and sprayed him with flat protective spray rather than gloss. I think it is vastly improved and I so hope you guys agree!

Oh and I used a Classics Jetfire head but sculpted him a Magnus face and helmet top before painting.

That looks loads better.

This is a great idea U9,I may have to borrow the idea to make one of my own if you don't mind.

Kind of inevitable. I don't mind, but I am proud of my idea so if you show him off please give me props! :)

This figure really is VERY impressive from a design stand point. I love the creativity that went into it. I think that Big Hank had a great point, just thinning the paint out a lil will help a lot. I love this fig though, man. It really pulls off M, and makes him look like a seasoned vet.
