I gotta ask, did you use drywall tape for the masking? Or cheese cloth?
TELL US!!! WHAT DID YOU USE FOR THE CARBON FIBER!!!!

That looks awesome! I also wanna know how you did the carbon fiber effect. I need to do that to my ROTF Skids. :)
i just used regular masking tape..... the yellowish one. what is a drywall tape? and what is a cheese cloth???
and as for the carbon fiber, painted by hand then coated it with automotive coating

I second that. WHAT DID YOU USE? great stripes. looks a Transformers mobster wearing a nice Tux.
are you guys referring to the paint i used? regular tamiya enamel paints, hand painted dot-by-dot....
yes it was a pain...
Holy crap! Your serious you painted that carbon fiber look by hand!?!? That looks amazing and I thought it was real carbon fiber to be honest.
:ban-llama:
if you zoom in really close, you'll see the brush strokes
TonyzCustomz: and i just saw your gallery..... amazing.......
:whack:
Selling yourself short, it looks great. Zoom in or not it fooled me.

The carbon fiber effect looks cool and annoying to paint. Seems like there has to be an easier way.

I've tried two ways. you can try on a scrap both ways and choose whichever you prefer.
1. The obvious way, secure the mesh on the surface (after base coating) of the section to be painted. Don't stretch it too much or you'll see the carbon fiber effect stretching and warping. Then paint over the nylon. Peel it away carefully and you should have a nice effect. This method you base coat with the "strand" color and topcoat with the solid part.
2. Base coat with with the "solid" color. Paint (usually spray) the nylon Before you apply it to the surface. Here you just kind of drape it on the surface, but firmly if that makes sense. Too hard and you'll smear it.
Practice practice practice!
