I don't know. I was told time and time again that this game was the shit. I was bored from the moment I started to the crummy and sudden ending.
I can't believe I bought this game rather than rent it. Hopefully, I can return it to gamestop :pimp:

Ouch glad to have heard a negative on it. I only know one person that has and he is all this is the greatest game ever made. I was thinking of grabbing the Game of the Year edition. But I should have taken in that he is easily entertained.
Was it just repetitive walking back and forth killing? Because that is what I got from watching him play for a little while.

yep, that's all it was. And what sucked even more, is once you clear out an area of enemies, that's it, that area's dead. They won't respawn (in most cases, unless the story re-uses an area 2 times)
I honestly expected a lot more. Decent story, I guess, but it went no where in my opinion.
A LOT of walking and picking up countless useless items and ammo and guns that are pointless. There's many ways to improve different stats, like bartering, science, lockpicking, and speech, but ultimately, they really don't effect the game. I can see how those attributes would influence the game, but only if it were 5 times longer and much bigger.
I think in total, I fought about 10 different type enemies the entire game too. which was quite lame. In the outdoors, it was dogs, scorpions and raiders, indoors it was mutants, zombies and soldiers.

I am not a game designer in the least but I have played enough games to say wow that is sad.
Now that I look bad at the marketing and the reviews it was all about. "Hey look at this massive amount of ridiculous ways you can kill a enemy". The are replacing a good gameplay with a long drawn out tedious minimal gameplay to trick you into feeling as if you actually did something worth while.
For games I want to waste 100+ hours on which my friend did I will play GTA 4 or Mass Effect again. Or hell bust out the old PS1 and play Final Fantasy 7 for the 100th time.
The no respawning of enemies is the worst part yet. WTF ever happened to replay value? At least let a player go back and play through with whatever they ended the game with.

yeah, that's all it came down to: repetitive killing over and over and over again. The VATS aiming system is cool, and unfortunately necessary if you want to do well or live in the game. Another downside to it was I found myself using the same weapon, same ammo and same technique to kill 99% of the enemies, I'd get close; use my shotgun or plasma rifle (close range specialty weapons) trigger the VATS system, unload 3 bullets into the head, rinse and repeat. I really like games that challenge different approaches and varieties when killing enemies. This didn't have that.

I love Fallout 3.
I think this is a niche-type game, though. I don't know what you normally play, F_R, but Fallout 3 is more about the plot and character interaction than the combat - although personally I always had a blast fighting. I used VATS, because I couldn't stand the third person perspective... I play too much Halo to enjoy that.
Was this your first trip to the Fallout universe? This is a very old franchise... I think that may be why you didn't enjoy it as much. I own (I'm pretty sure) all the Fallout games with the exception of 3's DLC. I've always enjoyed the tongue-in-cheek , fuck-all humor. I have a lot of time invested in the Fallout-verse, so when 3 dropped it didn't take much to get me hooked. Lone Wanderer? Meatloaf? Ron Pearlman? Man... everything I loved about those games had come to life in 1080 HD...
That, and Bethesda has got the biggest fucking balls of any developer out there today. I mean, they made a game in which a black man is the ring leader for the largest slave colony on the Eastern Seaboard. I actually spoke out loud in real life, remarking my amazement when I first met the character in-game.
Now Mass Effect.. now that is a prime example of a horrible, repetitive game. :D I had ME pre-ordered and wasted my life on it for about week like the crack that it was. My character quickly became extremely over-powered for anything that I could face, I had over $1 million in the bank... I could do anything I wanted and never had to worry about being challenged. There are so many achievements for that game I have not pursued simply because the difficulty evaporated in a matter of hours. Everyone else on your team is pretty much worthless... lol.
Oh, and I think you may have a bugged copy of Fallout 3 or something, F_R, because enemies should be respawning... Maybe I haven't played it recently enough, but I recall people respawning... *shrug*
Anyway, </shameless plug>

Well, I actually played 1 and 2 on the pc many years ago. I agree, the plot and interactions are great as well as some of the questing/missions, but I tend to like more "action packed" games I suppose.
I also agree about the slave colony. At that point in the game, I was asked to put the collars on the VIPs needed for the slave colony at the different cities. When the quest "to do" list started updating, I said "fuck that! I'm not going to all those places and doing all that to get access; so I blew the guys head off and proceeded to kill all the slave workers ;) Something I really admired about this game; you can pretty much do whatever the fuck you want, any interaction is met with different consequences and pathways, so it was cool that in a way, you create your own gameplay and storyline.

See I have never played any of the previous fallouts. But if this drops in price I may give it a tease. But with Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 coming tomorrow It will have to wait.

While I had Assassin's Creed pre-ordered and was blown away by it for about a week, after that time frame the game wore on me and I realized that it should have been a rental... it is SUPER repetitive, almost like Final Fight back in the day. Same dudes, just different colored clothes (which I guess makes you stronger, lol).
Thankfully, I saw a video that showed off AC2's economy and upgrade system, so hopefully it won't be so flat as the first game.
Yeah, didn't meant to derail, LOL...

This one of the many games i have yet to really get in and finish(specially with Batman and all of the Riddlers damn riddles!). I am out of the shelter thing and having a blast though, guess my IQ's to low to notice the game sucks. LMAO

I own Fallout 3, yet after playing it for about 6 hours, I just couldn't get into it.. I put it down and have not picked it up since.. which is odd, because I didn't mind Oblivion.
