OK, this is one that started out as a personal project, and then I was asked by a member at HISSTank if I would create one for him as a commission... it was done a few months ago, I entered it in a contest over at Toy Soup forums (which I did not win, oh well)... anyway, here's my take on Golobulus:
He is one character that most GI Joe fans loathe. He pops up in the GI Joe original animated film, and the story he is given is that he is an ancient being, and the original founder of the Cobra organization... wtf? You could almost hear a collective 'ugh' from every GI Joe fan across the world... the only ancients that I know (and worship) are Lovecraftian, and he wasn't one of them.
Personally, I thought the idea was stupid, but the look of the character was pretty cool. So, I kind of took the original story and recreated it to better suit my needs. Here's my version of the Golobulus story...
Dr. Mindbender is working on perfecting the DNA experiments to create the perfect warrior. Well, this was his first experiment, and it didn't go so well. In addition to mixing several strands of human DNA, he also mixed in some reptilian and insect DNA... plus, he decided to try this with a corpse. He figured if he could get it done properly, then Cobra soldiers who were shot down in the field would come back to life.
But, as you can see, the experiment was somewhat of a failure. The resulting re-animated corpse took several traits from the reptilian and insect DNA and combined them with the human DNA still left in his system, and created... this... thing.
He's made from:
Head: Tri-Gate creations head cast
Torso: Tri-Gate creations
Arms: Nemesis Immortal
Shoulder armor: Nemesis Immortal backpack thing
Left hand: SW comic pack Durge
Arm spikes: white dental picks
Snake body: Chap Mei snake from Adventure Hero set
Tentacles: Nemesis Immortal backpack thing
Tentacles on back: McFarlane Alien
The head/body were painted with Games Workshop Rotting Flesh as a base color, then given washes of brown and purple and drybrushed with 2 other purple colors. The snake was painted with a base of Freak Flex "Black Lagoon Green" and then drybrushed with lighter shades of green, while the underbelly was painted with Citadel "Ivanden Darksun" and then given a sepia wash.
I went a little overboard with the pictures on this guy... sorry.
