Hi guys, here are my first New Earth themed customs I created..."Father" is a scrappy, tough, and super strong old coot who trusts no one except for his son, Sonny Boy. "Sonny Boy" is a quiet, stoic, and cold hearted individual who loves only his Father. Both are a mystery to others as no one knows their history and how they became what they are now.
Thanks for taking a look!

I saw these over at Hisstank.com- they look great! A lot of times these "New Earth" themed customs seem sort of thrown together and a bit sloppy to me, but these are very artfully done. The muted tones and the subtle highlighting give the figures a sort monochromatic, post apocalyptic feel without them having to look like they rolled around in the mud for 10 years. The subtle shading of the skin tones, dusty feel and tattoo make Sonny boy my fave. he really sings. The funny thing is that when I first read the title of your post and then looked at the figs I thought the skinny blue guy was Father and the burly bald guy was Sonny Boy. They took on a whole different feel when I realized it was the other was around! Anyway, great job!

New Earth is a post apocalyptic setting where your imagination can really go wild. It's like Mad Max, Terminator, Fallout, Independence Day, X-men, and anything else like that all rolled into one. It's a new forum and game over at thesector12.com.

Thanks Mike! My son actually helped with the design elements for these two guys, and I his creativity amazing...He really likes the New Earth idea where we can mix all of the toy lines together so to speak and it has him liking the idea of GI Joe style figures more. I like that I can create original characters in my own way. It's win/win for both of us and to satisfy my hobby I will def be making more of these with this theme.

Ah. So is "new earth" specific to that site or is that the name of that style? Never heard of it but it sounds cool and it got my attention with all of these customs.

Well I am VERY new there myself. I learned about from all of Tank Driver's posts. I think it is specific to the site though.

New Earth is specific to theSector12.com.
TheSector12.com was created by Sector 12 administrator Rob0213 as the place for a forum roleplaying game he created, a post apocalyptic future where Earth has been torn apart by war and alien invasion. It was not stated as a customizer site, but kinda went that way. I started doing customs of some of the characters I created in helping Rob set things up, the came some real "pro customizers" like TankDriver and Sector 15 and others and things have really taken off.
As far as things being a bit "shoddy and thrown together", well maybe....
You see, the setting is a "Post Apocalytic" America, there aren't too many stores to go shopping, so a lot of us design the customs with a rough look to them to fit that. Equipment wears down, clothing gets dirty and torn, etc. This is a gritty, dirty dissheveled world, more road warrior or madmax stye than Star Trek.
Hey, follow the link in my signature and check it out, you just might like what you see!

Geez! I hope you didn't take offense to my comments. I just sort of think out loud when I'm critiquing and I never mean to offend. I realize that there is a school of thought that subscribes to the idea of doing things ultra realistically. Sometimes that attention to extreme realism gets in the way of the aesthetic for me, but that's just my personal opinion. I'm also someone that doesn't go for extreme gore- I always think less is more. I apologize if my comments seemed insensitive. It just reflects my personal aesthetic and I apologize if I was offensive.

Hey it's all good.
One thing also to understand some of the customs you see are by very beginner customizers. One or two made characters for the last contest we ran, and it was their very first custom, so yeah some of our stuff is simple. Heck my 7 year old posts his customs on there, and one my 4 yr old did and even a paint job done by my 2 yr old little girl!
We just try to emphasive how fun this great hobby is we all enjoy!

This is actually a pretty damn good description too, especially the imagination run wild part!
