My brother wanted a new corded controller for Christmas, so, rather than just give him something off the shelf, I put Anovasin's tutorial to good use. The pictures really don't do this thing justice. It has a very high gloss shine and a deep metallic red color. I'm very happy how this turned out and will now most likely be doing something similar to my PS3 and Wii controllers. Will post them if I do.

Did I just get a commission? The only thing keeping me from doing a Wii controller are the screws holding it together. Their a weird type of screw that looks like a phillips head, but with only three notches instead of four.

He better not get pissed playing a game and throw that controller on the ground.

very cool. those start/back buttons look caked in though. I guess you're gonna do the ultimate stress test for the paint durability ;)

They are caked in a bit. I painted them several times, but they kept filling in, so I left it.

Quick question: did you tapemask all the buttons, or did you remove the casing and do it seperately?

Took the whole damn thing apart, buttons and all. Then made sure they still slid through the hole without sticking.

That looks awesome. Paint in some flames! :D
I'm worried about paint chipping/damage though. Aside from being constantly handled, controllers also get thrown around quite a bit (at least mine do). :P

While this is also a concern for me, I coated it with three coats of Future. So as long as it doesn't get chucked around, it should be fine. Also, whe I gave it to my brother, I told if that if the paint ever starts to lose it's shine, to bring it to me and I'd redo the clear coat.

I don't want to know how you made sure that is "still slid through the hole without sticking".:hairraiser:
